Sock, alone, without other, on the floor
grips with fear, can't move no more,
where is its partner? where is its pair?
or loose hair, tufts of it fallen from the brush
gives you that electric rush of pure squeamish sickness
there is nothing about this that's ridiculous
tick, tick, tick, you've clocked the thing that makes you sick
bag is open THAT BAG IS OPEN, someone could put in fingers
close that bag or this tingle lingers
up and down my spine
DON'T drink red wine in the living room
if it spills we'll meet our doom.
Buttons, on clothes, bed sheets, or even worse
a solo button brings you a curse
avoid avoid avoid it
I'm annoyed you let it occur
can't carry on, as you were
no peepers please, in open closet door,
no gaps please, I can't ignore
the gap in the curtain or the blind
close it please, be most kind.
Baked beans on toast
I fear the most
who could eat them? who would want to be so vile?
I suffer phobias, have done for a while.
Yes, quite a few are irrational, irrational fears,
but the human race has had them for years.
Centuries ago, spiders could kill you, eat you.
that's why you scream when spider meets you.
A snake, a snake, would wrap around you
crush you and break
so what's stupid about running from the reptile house?
I'd rather not meet the fate of say a mouse.
So maybe every fear and phobia is okay
because maybe one day
deep, deep into the past, your stupid fear
was rational and crystal clear.
But watch that sock! alone on the floor!
look who peeps through cupboard door!
you call it a phobia? an irrational fear,
but I will avoid death, in the end, my dear.
