I love the spoken word but the problem is, I can't speak,
well I can you know, but the output is weak,
I write these words so softly but they shout through my vocal chords,
speaking to friends and locals will reap no rewards.
Here comes the s-s-stammer that's gonna hammer my speech
and it sounds like a kid showing a teacher they can read,
pace is all off, and I spit out in speed.
So I feel like my trade is stunted because to be blunt who bothers to read poetry anyway?
means I gotta turn writing into something I s-s-say.
If I'm reading from a page I read the same line twice,
ruins the rhythm, doesn't sound nice,
and if I try to memorize then I'm gonna fuck it up,
need to wise up and size myself up for the quest of reading my work.
I want to use my chest to impress and to talk true words not breathless gasps
that sound absurd.
Now i'm quite dramatic person when making my points in debate,
sometimes there's so much power I put people in a state.
But reading my own, I have shown I let myself down because I can't get the sound right.
Spoken word is about words that escape lips with might like Scroobius Pip's and with precision and pace.
If you're gonna take the decision to jump on the microphone then you need the tense right
and the tone not to fuck up your opportunity but to create unity with the ones who listen.
Make your literary point with ambition.
I need to learn the expression so I don't speed read my session
and it doesn't finish too quickly.
I'll probably never be as good as Jodi Ann Bickley but these people inspire me.
They put the fire in me to do the same and make my words my place in fame,
and I want bigger things for myself and my writing,
I want to feel the butterflies and for it to get exciting.
I wanna be able to stand on stage and turn the pages of my life story into my reckoning, my calling, glory.
I want to turn my poetry into the art of spoken word.
But more importantly, than anything, I just want to be heard.
